HGBF | CNTA IS IMPACTING FARMERS ACROSS GHANA.

WATCH VIDEO BELOW

The Howard G. Buffett Foundation Centre for No-Till Agriculture (HGBF | CNTA) is a global leader in demonstrating the value of and supporting the adoption of conservation agriculture (CA).

CA is comprised of multiple management practices and technologies that have the capability to conserve healthy soils, restore nutrient depleted land for arable use and increase productivity of food and crops in difficult climates.

The HGBF | CNTA partners with diverse stakeholders including farmers, international NGOs, industry and government agencies. These partnerships build a network of local farmers and expand HGBF | CNTA's reach to replicate its model globally.

We have expanded to four locations in several regions around Ghana. Scroll down to see map of these locations.

IMPACTS OF CONSERVATION AGRICULTURE (CA)*

WATER CONSERVATION:
A protective layer of mulch and cover crops prevent evaporation and hold moisture. CA retains 45-60% more soil moisture than traditional practices.

INCREASED YIELDS:
CA typically provides increased yields within the first two years of crop production.

SUSTAINING ARABLE LAND:
CA farmers productively farm on the same land year-after-year, whereas slash and burn farmers' land becomes unproductive after an average of two years.

WEED & PEST MANAGEMENT:
Improved management of weeds and pests reduces input costs, herbicide usage and manual labor.

REDUCED LABOR:
CA farmers reduce their field labor by an average of 45% over the first two years through improved weed control.

INNOVATION & ENTREPRENEURSHIP: Marketable cover crops and the use of time saved through reduced labor creates new income.

ACCESS TO EDUCATION: Increased disposable income and reductions in labor costs for families create greater access to children's education beyond primary school.

FOOD & NUTRITION SECURITY:
Families achieve food security as the result of increased disposable incomes through higher yields. CA farmers typically increase their disposable income by 25% in the first two years.
